I've come across some vector's of common test charts for evaluating camera resolution, color, and back focus. I'm going to make prints of each. I'm unsure of the size it needs to be, or whether or not that matters. I plan to make 20"x30" prints of each on matte paper.
I printed my backfocus chart on A4 210gsm paper which I then laminated.
For colour charts, be sure to use a properly calibrated printer with the correct colour profiles or you'll be throwing your colours all over the place.
20" x 30" sounds extremely large to me. I've never owned a commercial set larger than 8-1/2x11" myself, which is about as big as I would want to try and carry out in the field. In commercial TV studios, 11x17" or so seems to be the standard size.
You have to print them as big as you can possibly stand it. Printer resolution and (especially on inkjets) ink splatter can totally ruin the validity of fine detail on a char.t If you print it a lot bigger, and then film it from further away, you minimize or eliminate printer resolution as a variable in the usefulness of the chart.
