Selective color -confetti

I'm editing a short commercial and the director wants to do a lot of selective color shots, the main one im concerned with is a shot of a boy following a trail of confetti on a marble blue/white swirl floor. The director wants the confetti in color but everything else in black and white. I've done selective color with color corrector before with good results but am just wondering if there's anything i can instruct the art director to do to help make this shot possible? they shoot tomorrow!
any tips would be great, thanks!

I would use the brightest colored confetti you can find and dress the boy and the set and the background in shades of grey, white and black. I would also use a make up artist to get the boys skin tones muted and close to white/grey.
Strong lights should bring the color fo the confetti up too. All of this should help you in post so you can separate the confetti. Even if you desat the entire shot
you might be getting close.

Any particle system in any post or 3D application will do the trick.
Confetti is a rather easy task for such a system.
Would take less than a day of work.
