Segway & The British Open...

I'm sitting here watching the British Open (for those of you not in the know...golf) and they have Segway personal transporters with a steadicam of some sort mounted on it following the players down the fairway....WAY COOL!

I've seen this before at a NAB show a couple years ago...but I really think this could catch on. I want one now!!

They make a 'golf' model.

Yeah. They don't necessarily outfit the "golf" model. They had these at CineGear. I know one of the inventors of the Segway steadicam "mod". Indeed technology is cool stuff
 
I love that "x2 Adventure" - kind of a Segway Humvee.

Have you seen that "Military Robotic Platform" on the Segway site?
Would make a pretty cool remote controlled all terrain camera dolly.

Yeah. But programming that thing would be such a pain.
The x2 Adventure is definitely the rugged version of the models. However, it does get less miles per battery I think. Plus flying with Segways has it's "quirks".

The real way to use a Segway as a dolly is with a steadicam and something called the Handsfree Transporter. It's most likely what was being used in the British Open.

That's what I thought. Go for it and when you get it, post some pictures. I would think this would be great at certain sporting events...anything that runs up & down a field. Too cool!
 
I wonder how long it takes til poeple get bored standing on those vehicles and start adding seats, cupholders, roofs andwhatnot.

In a view years we all drive around in electric wheel chairs.

the segway is cool, but the fact that The Great White Shark is in the lead is AMAZING! Go Norman!!!!!!!!
 
The guy in the Segway Golf sample photos was wearing a helmet. Is that because the Segway is dangerous or his swing is dangerous?

I can't wait until the Segway becomes just another ridiculous gadget that ends up in garage sale $1.00 discount bin. We have legs for a reason. Use them.
