seem like I need new nNovia battery?

I've contacted tech support, but I"m in the middle of a project and they can be slow to answer.

Here's the deal. It's a plain nNovia QC, just over a year old, used maybe 100 hours. This just started happening, and now it's intermittent:

I turn on the drive, I get a green LCD panel that's about half normal brightness with NO text on it (and of course no ability to record or play). I plug in the AC adapter, and I get full brightness and the LCD text.

Can a NIMH battery lose charge-ability fairly rapidly? I mean, a few days ago I was shooting in a garden, couple of hours w/no problem. Recharged right after that, and now....this!

Not sure how fast it can happen but the problem with the NIMH batteries is that they have a memory, so if you're charging them without running them all the way down, they "lose" capacity over time. I'm sure there's a more technical way to put it, but it's the best way I know to explain it. :)

Yep, that's a problem. You can try charging it up, then draining it completely. Repeat that process a couple of times. Sometimes that can bring them back to life. If it doesn't work, a new battery may be in order.

Thanks! I guess I'll just turn it on until it dies, then recharge for many hours.

Actually, I have one more q: does a totally dead battery interfere with the ability to use AC...sort of block the power from getting through? For the nNovia, you hook up the batt to both the AC and the drive...there's no way to power the drive directly with AC.
