Seeking suggestion for Mini DV Deck

Greetings! I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a quality Mini DV Deck in the price range of $700-$900. Are there any decent ones in that range, or even cheaper? I've read up some on the various JVC models that fall within that price range, but the reviews I've read have been pretty negative.

We have 50 hours of footage that we're editing and need a deck to start logging all the footage. The owner of the DVX-100a we're filming on doesn't want us to use the camera to do the logging, so we need to purchase a deck.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, the consensus seems to be: either go "all out" and get a good deck (which probably starts with the Sony DSR-11 at $1600). Or get a cheap "throw-away" DV camcorder. They can be had for as little as $200.

Yup, what he said.

Go with either a DSR-11 or do what I did and use a cheap mini-dv camcorder.

I have been using a $600 sony digital handycam as my source deck for over a year.
No problems.

For just capturing footage I'd go the cheap minidv camera route. For $200-300 you can pick up a consumer minidv camera (i.e. Canon ZR100) that'll do the job for you. If you have a need to output to regular dv, you'll need to do something different, though. I've used the Canon as my "deck" without any problems. I'm also able to connect it from my computer via firewire and output to a monitor and television to do my color correction.

Been using a Canon ZR80 for about a year now with no problems. We also use it sometimes as our "making of" camera (as if anyone would ever want to see our making of footage).
