Security Seminar

Hey guys- some of you may be interested in this...

We held our annual security seminar this morning- good turnout- about 400 people showed up. In the seminar we go on to explain the importance of security in your network, yada yada. For those of you that work in the industry, and some that haven't, I'm sure you've heard of a man by the name of Kevin Mitnick, one of the most renowned hackers of all time.

To cut to the chase, I had a great oppurtunity to meet Fyoder, the creator of the network scanner 'nmap,' which is prebuilt in almost every linux flavor. The guy was brilliant! He went on to explain stories hacking, and how his company has set up what they call "Honeypots" to attract hackers and devulge their exploits. VERY interesting stuff in my opinion. Anyway, we had someone film the whole seminar, and I'm trying to get extra dvd's made for any of you that may be interested. You can just pay shipping- but it wont be another few weeks until i get them.

SIDE NOTE- i was talking to Fyodor while driving back from the airport with him. For those here who are fans of "The Matrix," his program is used in the film. When trinity brings down the electrical grid she uses nmap. Fyodor had no idea they used it, and was pleasantly surprised when he saw something he made being used in the Matrix on opening night of the movie.

Funny- he told a story of some dude that hacked his honeypot, and how they caught him. apparently the guy that was hacking them had a webcamera- so they hacked into his pc and were able to watch him as he hacked them, "nose-picking and all." the way they identified his location was by watching him watch television- he was watching mrs. doubtfire, which led them to find out it was the east coast.
