Security Clearance

Sad Max

Artful Dodger
So for the first time since about 1991 I need a security clearance to do my job (The US Navy's being particular about who gets to explore their ships).

Hope I can still pass the check.

I mic'ed Laura Bush here in STL... and I had to get one to get a white house press pass... and they said the special bright orange sticker on my badge/lanyard was so I wouldn't get sniped if I got too close during her speech.

Good times. I'm sure you'll be fine. You don't strike me as a guy who gets caught for stuff.

I'm embellishing a bit... they specifically said the bright orange thing would tell security it was OK for me to get closer then the people who didn't have it.

Of course right before she walked up to the outdoor podium... a horse-trailer parked at the bottom of the hill below her... a utility truck parked at the top above... and a couple military guys appeared on the nearest roof... :)

A buddy of mine has worked the security detail here at Buckley AFB when the president or VP have been in town. He spends a lot of time in places where you can't see him with a rifle pointed at people. He doesn't mind except one time when Cheney wouldn't leave the plane for an extra hour or so because of the weather.

don't worry, i've heard it isn't that bad. once you get past the cavity search, it's smooth sailing.

His dark powers didn't extend to controlling the weather...?*

Heck, that's the only part of the process worth looking forward to...

* sigh...if that's too political, mods please delete...

My company did sound and lights for a Cheney gig back during the 2000 campaign... our contact forgot to put me and the other guy on the list to get back into the building after the Secret Service kicked us out to do the security sweep... he almost had to run the boards himself... :D

A buddy of mine says that, when talking about microphones, you should never use the word "shotgun" when working in D.C.

Apparently security isn't so tight when they become ex-presidents. I did a shoot around Bush #1 a couple years ago, was cable grip...and easily came within a couple feet of him and never went through security or any checks. In fact, almost tripped the old guy with the cable. :D

I can imagine you wouldn't want to be "shooting" anyone, either.:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)
Brings to mind the story of the famous overseas director who came here during TV pilot season, who was stopped at L.A. immigration, asked "what's your business here in America?" and he told the airport immigration official "I'm here to shoot a pilot."

And promptly spent six hours in an interrogation room.

Sad thing is, the story turned out to be totally bogus, no truth to it at all. But it's still a a great story. :)

Well, a true story is when they were filming Babe, the producers went to a farm and asked "Do you have puppies? We want to shoot them."
