Security Cam Footage and VEGAS

A client of mine recently gave me some security cam footage to work with. The file properties show them as .avi however I can't get them to do anything in Vegas. I try to play them with Windows media player and get the error msg. GMP4 Codec needed. After a cursory search on the net, I think I have determined that this video was encoded on a Geovision system.

My question...Is there any way to work with this footage in Vegas 7?

Thanks

Have you found and downloaded the GMP4 codec onto your system? Presuming it's freely available (as opposed to some top secret or expensive Geovision custome thingy), that should work.

Or presumably these files play on the original security cam system - as a last resort, you could play them on that system and rerecord them on a video camera (preferably via a video cable, not by literally filming the screen)

Clang...
I did find and download the GMP4 codec and all is well in the universe.

thanks...

I have downloaded the decoder and can't get it to work in Vegas 10 or WMP??? I ran the .exe installer, did you do anythign special?

I had this problem with my own security cam footage. I had to use the included converter to convert the AVIs to a readable format. Depending on the brand, they may have their particular converter available for download from their website. Without the converter, I could NOT convert the footage to use in vegas. I tried many different software packages and none were able to do it.
