Secondary color correction (areas NOT just colors) in Premiere Pro

I'm looking to speed up the rendering of color correction allied within Premiere Pro. We've been using colorista II and love it - except it sows down rendering horribly.

We could replace most if using the three-way color corrector and curves, but Colorista II has a fairly powerful secondaries section that allows you to create a vignette area (normal or inverted) for a secondary correction of that area (not just specific colors).

How can this be achieved using only Premiere Pro native effects (preferably GPU accelerated effects). I had thought of mattes etc but I'm having trouble figuring this one out..... any ideas?

Use the secondaries in Premiere. They are not exactly intuitive ( worth googling or Adobe TV for a tutorial) ...but basically. You turn on the Mask and make a selection with the eyedropper. You can then add or subtract to the mask and soften it.

Apply as many of these (separate FX each time) as you wish.

They work really well and of course they are RT with CUDA etc.

With "areas"...you could make a grad mask Titler . I have some premade for vignettes.

Thanks - I've figured it out - nice one :)

Thats cool.

I am assuming that you figured out how to fill your shape with a grey scale grad (black to white) and use that to create the vignettes etc.

For added control and effect...you can use the Blend Modes as well. Its kind of infinite what one can do with Blend Modes, Opacity FX and mutipler layers in Premiere Pro.

Caution : Do beware of anything to do with Opacity control. It has a little "flaw by design" ,evidently... that leaves opacity droppings in the key frame. Watch out for them because they can bite you. At the very least they always slow down your workflow.
