has anyone ever shot with this camera? I've heard this is an awesome camera and I was thinking about renting one for a wedding I'm shooting in may. I've never shot with a "broadcast" style camera before. I was just looking for some insight and what you think about this camera, and how it would work in a wedding environment. thanks

It's a very good camera. I used it on a short I directed a couple of years ago. The one thing that you have to keep in mind is they shoot to DVCPro tapes and you have to rent a deck to transfer your footage.

NoahK directed a feature shot on one.

There's also the SPX800, which is the P2 version. No need for a deck.

i just did a readup on the SPX-800, sounds like an amazing SD camera! I like that you can connect to your computer via firewire, and its 5 P2 slots.

I wonder if the cost of renting additional P2 cards would be the same as renting a deck.

In addition to the deck rental, keep in mind the cost of the tape, which is about a dollar a minute and can't be dumped and re-used. A 32GB card will give you the same record time as a $120 tape.

holy moly, that's expensive! P2 sounds like the way to go. what are the 32GB cards going for per day?

I looked around for places in San Diego that would rent the SPX800, but I couldn't find anyone that carried it. I guess I'd have to go up to LA if I wanted it.

Wait, I think I got my factor wrong there. A 32 GB card will give you the same record time as a $60 tape. Still, you get the point -- tapes are expensive.

Glancing online, I'm seeing around $70/day for the card, but I have no idea what they'd be like locally for you.
