SDi vs. Analog Input Monitor

I'm looking to buy a new monitor for my edit suite. I have a Dual G5, PCI-X, FCP... I have two questions:

1. I don't have a deck (I use a cheap JVC mini-DV for capture) so do I need a card like the Blackmagic Design SD for a good preview? If not, what method would I use to connect my monitor?

2. If I do need a card, or if I would greatly benefit from it, do I need a card and a monitor with SDI, or are the analog in/out's good enough? I don't need super high quality and I want to wiegh the cost/benefit ratio between SDI and analog inputs.

I only edit DVX footage for TV/DVD distro, but I want to know if the quality jump is worth it from analog to SDI, considering it's a hefty price jump. Here's what I had in mind...buy the $300 Blackmagic card and find a decent Sony PVM on eBay.

If your camera does digital pass through, you could just take an RCA or svhs out from it, and connect that to your monitor. In FCP, you would then choose to preview your video on an external device, which should be somewhere in the preferences. thats my 2 cents.
