SD302 into VX2100 or FX1

As my subject says, I need to be able to connect the output of my SD302 into my VX2100 or FX1. Both take the unbalanced mini jacks (boo!). The best thing to do seems to be to buy the "XL7 TA3-F to Mini Female 6" cable for Sound Devices 302 Field Mixer" from B&H and then buy a mini male to male cord to go from my cameras mini jack in to the TA3 cord. Does this sound right? Has anyone done this?

For reference, here is the cable I mentioned

For the FX1 I would recommend shelling out an extra $50 and get the DXA-FX. It's physically designed to fit the FX1 and it won't unbalance the camera. I have the DXA-6 and it's about an inch too short for the bottom of the cam, makes the entire setup a bit back heavy.

But Wabbit, why can't I just buy that cable to go from my tape out to my camera? I just shelled out $1200 for an SD302, I really don't want to buy a beachtek. I can't figure out why the Tape Out port wouldn't just be perfect for this use.

you wouldnt have any problem on short cable run .
use 5 pin cable so you will get return as well
use right angle connectors on camera side for better safety not to brake the in put and output .
for long runs you might have problems with hum if you cross power lines or have ground loops when you attach the camera to ac powered devices .definitely better run balanced signals.

As Oleg said you can go unbalanced if you want but more than likely you will find the mixer and camera far apart and an unbalanced signal can fall apart fast. I wouldn't recommend it.

Additionaly the miniplug can easily become dislodged with just a little pressure and unless you are monitoring off the camera all the time you could end up with a lost signal.

You can go either way but as I said you probably want to go with the balanced signal. The first time you end up with a scene full of noise you will wish you shelled out the $200.

Cheers
