SD to HD

I shot a couple of indie films via dvx100 in the early 2004.usually my output to the theatres or festival is DVD or convert the master dv tapes to beta sp for festivals. Then since i switch to HD and use pro res 422 to output my work i started to look back at my SD works.Recently I converted my sd timeline to prores at 1920x1080 then deinterlaced it as i shot in PAL camera and i now live in ntsc land. first the conversion to prores 422 hq to quicktime resulted in a 150 gig file then i outputted it to dvd.the results were stunning . my SD films suddenly became alive and the colours and saturation is as if i shot it in SD.

my question is, am i doing it right uprezzing the sd in this manner? are there other ways without those big MOV files? Not that i am complaining, i am perfectly ok with it as storage is a lot cheaper now. with this workflow for SD works, is this ok?
