I dont know if i missed this topic or what but here it goes again. I'm currently finishing off my 2nd documetnary shot on the dvx100a. I've been doing tons and tons of testing for encoding and this and that...checking the footage out on HDtvs and flat panel tvs and tube tvs and any other kind of tv.
I've been comparing other films both shot on SD video and other types of video and it all just isnt working anymore.

I got the jackas 2.5 movie to test on a hdtv and it doesnt look any better than my film in quality, so that kinda made me feel good. As i thoguth i was screwing **** up with how i encode and master to dvd, i guess the technology is outdated as of few years ago.

I dont quite know how i feel about SD anymore, with the invent of the new HD tvs and everything being so crisp, SD just looks awful, i do belive this is my last SD project. I am probably a little late on that but the change had to happen.

I konw that i'm probably just very picky and when i see a inferior signal on a new tv i just cringe. I wonder how other ppl feel about that if they even notice.

I have not yet tested out HD footage on these new tVs but i hope that all the pixelation of a SD signal isnt there. If it is please somene let me know.

How do you guys deal with the quality of your project being shot in SD and then played back on these new tvs?

SD footage looks fine on a SD monitor. The reason it looks terrible on a HD monitor is because of the scaling, 720 x 480 scaled up to 1920 x 1080 = ugly video. If you up convert to HD using a high quality scaler (Teranex, Snell & Wilcox, etc.) the image is much better, not as good as native HD but better than the scalers built into most displays.

Use an upconverting DVD player, or an HDDVD or Blu-Ray player (both also upconvert) to play SD DVDs. An SD DVDplayer just doesn't look good on HD tvs.

I have a DVX100AEN and was wondering what type of scene file would suit 720P best?
Are there any tricks that you have discovered to make it look better?

What are your experiences on broadcasting of DVX100A on 720P tv's? Was hoping that would look better than 1080i since its both progressive and closer resolution wise.

And is there a big difference on material you play back yourself or if it's broadcastet?
