SD memory card test video

These guys did perhaps the coolest SD card test ever (and the guys who did it are members here, too.) I was actually going to do something similar, so when I found this video I was like -- cool, that's a lot of effort I don't have to go through!

I actually bought a SanDisk Extreme Pro, a Transcend, I already have some Panasonic Golds, and I got a new Panasonic "pro" card, and was going to get a Hoodman Raw Steel card to do the test with. I was going to do some things similar to them (baking the cards in the oven, etc). Some things I was going to do different, like the shock test -- they shot it with a gun, I was going to strap the cards to a football and have a high school kicker kick it, but it ends up about the same. Their bathtub test is a little worse and a lot milder than what I was gonna do; I was gonna leave 'em in the ocean for three days. And I bought an electric stun gun to do a shock test on them, although I doubt any of them would have survived.

So, it would have been fun, but now there's no need because these guys did a pretty good and entertaining job!

Haha! Nice. By the way, I am sure the ocean would corrode the hell out of those contacts in just a short amount of time! :)

Great! I got the San Disk and it is the best card I have. I knew I should have stuck with Panasonic.

Fun test, but they didn't have the Professional Panasonic UHS-1 Card, it is silver in color and has a QR code on it. Other than that it would be about the same. The professional card also has Recovery Software and a Card Checker software as well as a 1 year warranty.

Well you could but it does seem a little inconvenient, and you do stand a chance to drink it with your scotch or serve it to a guest.
;-)

They really should have used a new card for each test. How can you reliably try a crush test after the you basically destroyed one of the cards from the previous tests? Cause taping it definitely brings it back to factory manufacturing standards.

Very unscientific.

Very entertaining (a red-tipped toy gun?).

But nonetheless makes me glad I use Panasonic Golds.

We were only given a single card by each manufacturer. Of course we would have rather used a new card each time, but we did what we could with the material we had. Thanks for checking out the video, it was a fun shoot.
