Anyone know if it's possible to use sd & hd in the same timeline with out rendering with FCP? I think it can be done in newer avids and it's possible with Quantel but I wasn't sure if it was in FCP. Anyone know? Thanks.

Nope- you have to pick one codec and then the other footage is rendered to match it.

Actually, I do it and don't have to render. It depends on how much horsepower you have. SD and HDV don't play well together for rendering. But I mix DVCPRO-HD and NTSC-DV together without having to render. I can't put any filters or anything without having to render. But just plain video clips, no problem. Again, FCP scales itself to your specific system's horsepower. Thus, mileage may vary.

Cool, thanks guys.

Ben, If you don't mind me asking, what does your system have?

Quad Core G5, 4.5G RAM, huge ass internal drives, huge ass external drives, Quadro FX 4500, 30" Cinema HD Display, more cables across my desk than I can count (one day I should find out how many are actually live).
