Hey Guys...
Im trying to sync my Af100 and my HVX372 to my Sound Device 744T
Im new to timecoding..
Can anyone explain what the process is?
Do i plug the BNC to the out on my Camera, then connect to the in on my 744T
or visa versa..
Thanks in advance

Does your camera have a timecode output connection? If so, the norm in video is for the camera to be the timecode master. Connect the timecode output on the camera to the timecode input on the SD 744T so you can feed the camera-generated code to the audio recorder or jam camera code into the recorder if you want to work untethered.

Usually sound is timecode master

But the af uses the yellow RCA port for its timecode. In its menu there is a timecode section where you select for it to be master or chase(forget exact wording) but the camera will only sync when you activate that option but will not constantly send code, it stops when you exit that menu. So you'll need the appropriate cable to go from SD to RCA. I've been using a sync box with my 552 and now have a nomad so my cable has been easy but you'll need a limo cable for the 744. Any of the sound production retailers can get you what you need.

I beg to differ. In FILM timecode workflows sound is usually the master. But in VIDEO workflows, usually either the camera is master or an independent timecode generator providing House Sync serves as master for both. Of course, you can elect to do it either way if you choose and your equipment allows. I'm not personally familiar with this camera but my reading of the specs and manual online is that it sounds like the TC out is there to synchronize the clocks in two camera and does not serve as a true TC output port sending continuous code as in a proper TC workflow. If as you say, the AF doesn't send code from its output except when you're in the timecode menu, you could set both camera and recorder to free-run, go into the menu and set the camera to master so it sends code, jam the 744 to it and then disconnect, allowing each to continue running independently. They should stay in sync for 4 hours or so from that point on, as long as you do not power down the camera. Or you could do it the other way around if you prefer. It sort of depends on which is more reliable and easier to manage, jamming the recorder to TC coming from the camera or the other way around, jamming the camera to TC coming from the recorder.
