SD 633 line inputs and Sennheiser G3?

The new Sound Devices 633 has 3 ta-5 line inputs channels. Is it possible to use Sennheiser G3 receivers with these line inputs (with ta5 to minijack cable)?

I assume I need some line level receivers to get it work, and far as I know the G3 is not a line level receiver (?)
(I have tried to switch my SD 302 input to line, and boost the AF out on the G3 receiver to +12db, but no sound.

But I´ve seen people using G3 on the line inputs on 744t with ta5 to minijack. So I suppose it’s possible then. Confused.

Thanks.

You can adjust the output level of the G3 in the menu, and the line inputs on the 633 can still boost the signal a bit. There shouldn't be any problem, but I haven't personally used a G3 on a line input, so someone else might have a different take on it.

I use a G2/3s occasionally with a 744 line level inputs. The 744's gain is usually 'up there' but it's not a problem. OTOH, the Tascam 680 has more than enough line gain and also works splendidly with the G2/3's line level. (In either case, the (EK100) portable receiver's AF out should be set to max. (+12dB) Raising the transmitter's sensitivity/input level can compromise head-room and should not be used as a substitute for 'more gain'.

- The line inputs on the SD 633 are TA-3 connectors. Lectro uses the TA-5 on many of their M and UM series transmitters.

Thanks for input! My mistake - ta3 connectors of course.

So the conclusion is that the G3 will work fine on the channel 4-6 line inputs on 633?

What I dont understand is why I dont get any sound from G3 with my SD 302 switched to "line"? I have set the receiver to AF out +12 db. I got a tiny tiny signal though. 1 led in the bottom on the meter.

> The 302's trim usually needs to be to the max with a G2/3 line level. Have you tried inputting a nominal +4dB test tone to rule out other inconsistencies in the signal flow? Is the transmitter's input sensitivity set abnormally low. The G2/3 meters should deviate about halfway up with average program audio. Otherwise use mic level on the 302 with the G3 AF out set to -12 or -18, the 302 preamps are certainly clean enough.

I just looked it up - you can adjust the amount of attenuation you want on the 302 when using the line in.

In the 302 menu you can adjust the amount of attenuation on the xlr outputs. But is it possible to do that on the input line levels as well? I'm reading the manual but can't find anything about that.

The 302's XLR inputs are mic/line switchable with a Gain/Trim control and channel Fader.
The main XLR outputs can be attenuated via the software menu down to mic level or about anywhere in between. It cannot be raised higher than the (factory default) 0dBu ref. line level setting. The meters are adjustable for a +4dBu ref. level though.
