SD 302 to DSLR - XL-7 cable?

On an ongoing project that I am working on, we very frequently shoot with 1 or 2 5d's (5d2 and 5d3). The audio setups are usually pretty simple, a NTG3 or AT4053 (depending on location) or a rode lavalier or two wired or into sennheiser g3s. I currently use a Sound Devices 302 into a Tascame DR-40 and we sync up later in post and the results have been very, very good.

I have no intention on not using the Tascam for the final version of the audio, however, there are times when I would at least like to send a copy of the audio to one or both of the 5d's to either help with syncing, speed up workflow, etc. Therefore, I'm not as concerned with the quality of recording as just getting a closer copy of what we are recording into the Tascam.

Is there an way of doing this for one or both cameras? I know there are ways to go from the Tascam to a DSLR using the headphone jack, but I'd prefer not to go that route since I'd lose the ability to monitor. I am not concerened with monitoring the audio going into either of the cameras.

I have come up with a couple ways, but not sure if they'd work so I figure I'd ask here to see if they'd work or not.

Option 1: SD 302 XLR OUT (at line level) + XLR attenuator pad + XLR to mini cable (link below) to 5d:

Option 2: SD 302 tape out + XL-7 cable (link below) + 3.5mm attenuator cable (25db maybe?) to 5d:

Let me know what you think! And sorry if something like this has been asked before, I didn't spot anything.

You don't need XLR attenuation pads out of a 302. You can turn down the XLR outputs from Line to Mic level, by adjusting the 302. Download the 302 manual and look this up.

Hmm, can you turn down just one of the XLR outputs on the 302? My left output, for instance, I always want going out at full line level to my DR-40. I was under the impression that the attenuation was on both ouputs, which I wouldn't want.

Yes you may adjust the 302's XLR output level , but Stouty needs to feed the DR40 via the XLRs. (+4dB)
Alternately, SD has a schematic for wiring the 302's Tape-out for mic level, however advanced cable making and soldering skills are involved. Sescom (now owned by Tower Prod./Markertek, Saugerties NY) makes a line of attention cables specifically to feed a DSLR's mic level input from a 1/8" HP jack.

Obviously, one could use an in-line pad, but they are usually somewhat big and clumsy for a small DSLR set-up.

Thanks for the replies. So it sound like either of my solutions will work as long as I get the attenuation correct? I think that it's just that I always get a little confused when it comes to balanced to unbalanced and mono to stereo type wiring that I figure it would be best to ask first.
