SD 302 settings for the HVX-200

Hi,

I just got my 302 today and I love it. It seems to work well with the factory settings going in line level and setting the 0db tone to one or two dots below peaking.

Is the stock +20dBu output limiter threshold adjustment a good place to start? I shot today and things seemed okay, but it was just nat sound and I didn't have time to critically listen to it since I was shooting and my boom operator is not a regular sound guy.

Any tips and tricks would be appreciated!

Thanks all for convincing me to spend the money and get the right thing.

set the output for -4-2 db attenuation on 302
engage the tone on 302 while you still in menu position., it will give you full scale 20 db tone
dial the camera that the tone will hit 0dbfs ( full scale)
place the limiters around +15-+16
you can open the input limier as well on 302 inputs ( they hit 6db before preamp clips)
close the menu
check if you give 0 dbu tone you are in -20 settings
mix that your regular pics will fly to +8 dbu ( work with pick+vu meter so you be shure you see the picks and the average recording levels)
you done
by the way check your mail box
