hello.
right now i have the sound devices 302 mixer with their 744t 4 track recorder.
what i'm thinking is that if i upgrade to the 442 what i will be able to do is...
1. obviously take in one more input source either mic or line
2. i can take up to four inputs and mix them into Left and Right to send to a camera PLUS i can send up to four tracks separately to the recorder.
the thinking here is that the recorder gets better quality than most cameras can do and we all know that you shoot hours and hours of stuff and so very little of it gets used.
so i thought that if i have all four tracks of the sound saved without any mixing etc. that it would be invaluable for the final mix of the project to have up to four tracks totally separate.
does that make sense?
the feature of feeding the four channels out pre-fader/panning to the recorder seems perfect, while still letting me feed a mixed version to the camera.
this way i can record a boom and a boundary mic for scene sound fx so that track will be available later to blend with the dialog.
and if its something complicated i could run 2 lavs, a boom and a boundary mic.
give it to the camera in a 2 track Left and Right mix but still have the original untouched audio.
