SD 24F and interlacing problem

Hey all,

I've shot footage on the Canon A1 set to 24F SD anthropomorphic and am having probs getting it into FCP without interlacing. Any ideas what I'm missing? I've tried multiple easy set-ups and capture options with no luck. Of course the deadline to finish this thing is looming so any help would be great. Thanks!

Are you using 5.1.2? If not, you have to; FCP 5.1.1 and earlier doesn't know what to do with 1080/24F footage. Use 5.1.2 and the "easy preset" to capture.

Thanks Barry.

Yeah, I'm on 5.1.2, but the footage isn't 1080, 720 since I shot SD, right? Am I missing something? When I tried an HD easy setting, FCP won't see the camera.

720 is not SD, 720 is HD.

SD = 480.

And yes there will be interlace lines in SD 24P footage, since SD must record it as 480i interlaced. When using FCP you have to remove the pulldown.

Alrighty, i might have done what I needed. I put the captured clips in 23.98 sequence and exported them. It seemed to do the job, tho I'm still wondering if there's a better way.

Thanks!

FCP support said that there is no way to capture SD 24f with the XH A1 when I talked to them yesterday... They said the 23.98 setting is for using a Panasonic, so that is why I keep getting 29f instead of 23.98. It's depressing.

We should put up a post on the XH A1 section warning FCP users not to shoot in SD 24f. On a side note, the HD captured in 23.98, so that works. I also wondered why the SD said it was 720 as well, did you get an answer on that? It clearly states on the camera that it is shooting SD.

I tried another avenue, taking the captured clips at 29.97, batching them through cinema tools to 23.98 using Reverse Telecine and putting them into a 23.98 sequence. So far, all seems to be working, but I admit I have no idea why as I got the idea from someone else's work around for converting P2 footage.

True about the 24f SD note in the A1 section. Should do.

Give what I tried a shot and see if that does it. Also, I shot in the 2:3 pulldown, but I'm wondering if footage is shot in the 2:3:3:2 you can sneak it with that capture setting. Either way, Apple should fix ASAP, no matter how much I want thier new phone. Ha
