scrolling credits

i'd like to scroll credits at the end of the film with the character's name in italics on the left side and the actor's name in bold (non italics) on the right side. (very traditional.) i tried creating two text clips in fcp and running them next to each other. unfortunately, even little differences in the clips caused the left side to scroll much faster than the right side.

what's the best way to set up scrolling credits with the character and actor's names in different fonts, side by side so they scroll evenly? is this easy to do in livetype?

many thanks in advance.

Re: scrolling credits

One way I have heard to do something like this...

Create a document in Photoshop that is 720pixles wide. Make it VERY tall.
Type your italic text down the left side, your bold text down the other.

Save it, import it into FCP, set some motion keyframes to have it scroll and render away.

Not necessarily the best way (or is it?), but I guess it will work.

Re: scrolling credits

tks very much. i'd like a different font to distinguish the character's name from the actor's real name. many films will either use a smaller font size or different font on the character's name to highlight the actor's real name. (have to feed the actor's ego!) i will check out the tutorial. again, tks.

Re: scrolling credits

Definitely go with an imported image. Instead of Photoshop, though, I recommend Illustrator or (better yet for typography) InDesign. These can export a raster-version PDF file which keeps the text at its highest possible quality. FCP can import the PDF then you can keyframe scroll to your heart's content and the text quality will be excellent.
