Can anyone recommend a good/free scriptwriting program off the net ?... personal experience with it ?? I searched the forums for those keywords but couldn't find anything.

thanks.

if you are going to get serious at all with screenwriting beyond writing films you will see through production i would make the investment in final draft. its $200 bucks but will be worth it in the end.

final draft...and celtix, thank you. Maybe final draft is the way to go then. I know this is a newb question but what will it offer to me opposed to celtix ?

I use Celtx and it is great... it does everything i need and more....but i also plan to produce all of my own work so i cant tell you if it meets the standards of Final Draft or other software.

If i was you I would try Celtx since its free, if you like it great if not then pay the 200 bucks for final draft which is pretty much the industry standard scriptwriting software so you cant go wrong.

I have never used Final Draft so i cant give a breakdown of differences it has to Celtx but im sure someone else on here can help you with the comparison

I agree with this. But if you can't afford it, then Celtx is definitely the best free software.

cool thanks, very helpful. I'll try Celtx for now. Since it's my own movie I'm doing and im looking to lay the script out some what professionally I'll try it.

thank you for your help.

Try out Final Draft 7 for free here:
https://www.finaldraft.com/products/final-draft/download-demo.php

I've started using it in 05 after i wrote my first feature and wish i would've had it before hand. I haven't used anything else since. I also tried Sophocles and liked it but haven't played with it enough to really want to use it.

If there is an industry standard screenwriting software program, it's Final Draft. There is a Wndows version as well as Mac plus ... almost any agency/production company/studio worth their salt will accept FD files (once the releases are signed, of course).

I have heard that WGA-W will accept FD files for registration but haven't confirmed that.

I will recommend you to use Adobe Story. It is a collaborative script development tool . It can be used to accelerate the process of creating screenplays and turning them into finished media. Adobe Story is capable of being integrated with Adobe Production Premium Suite.Adobe Story is available both as a web-based application, and a desktop application. The desktop application helps you work on your scripts when offline, and sync up with the online version
