Script Swap

Howdy all,

I'm interested in swapping scripts with a writer here. I'd like to receive feedback on a 50-page short I recently completed, but I'd be willing to read a feature-length in exchange.

I'm almost surprised we don't have a sticky for this kind of thing. I'd go over to the DDP forums, but I really don't know anyone well over there.

Anyhow, drop me a PM or a post here if you're interested. Feel free to hijack this thread to post your own requests for script swaps.

Eric

Well, I don't have a script to swap, but if you'd just like some feedback, I'd be willing to read it :)

Hmm

Hmm

I'm working on a feature script now, so this is something that would definitely interest me in the future, because it'd be nice to find someone else to collaborate with some more. I have one person who has been really helping me along, he is amazing, but yeah it's always good to have someone else.

Just out of curiosity, does registering your script/screenplay with WGA cost a significant amount of money?

WGA registration is $20 for the general public, $10 for WGA members. Most people here will advise you, however, to actually register your script with the U.S. Copyright Office for $35 (if you do it on-line).

http://www.copyright.gov/register/performing.html

That might be a little pricey if you're just writing shorts, but you're actually allowed to copyright multiple works together. From the FAQ:

********************

Can I register a collection of works with a single application?
A collection of works may be registered with a single application if either of the following requirements is met:
    1. The collection is made up of unpublished works by the same author and owned by the same claimant; or
    2. The collection is made up of multiple published works contained in the same unit of publication and owned by the same claimant.

********************

So, WGA registration is cheaper on a per-item basis, but the copyright office provides much better protection. And if you write a bunch of stuff at one time, the copyright office could be exceptionally affordable. You're only limited in what you copyright by the amount of data you can upload in thirty minutes to their server. So, if you have a decent connection, you could be looking at 100 MB of material. That's a lot of text!

Edit: Fixed maximum upload time. It's 30 minutes, not 60.

And even though you register copyright online, you can still optionally send in material (the 'Deposit') through the mail (necessary of course for large data files like a feature film, etc).
