Script organization

How do you all organize your script?

I feel like 120 pages become too many in a single file to comprehend (and print after each revision).

Is there any way to keep (long) scenes in separate files and merge them when needed? Like creating hyperlinks. Does Final Draft have this useful feature? I haven't seen any.

Once you lock a script in Final Draft you can print just the revisions. That's standard practice. As far as keeping "long scenes" in other files? Sounds like you have some scenes that you need to take a good hard look at.

Movie Magic Screenwriter will let you print one or any number of specific scenes from the print menu (and provides an easy drop list of the scenes to click and select one or multiple scenes), instead of printing the entire document/screenplay, if that is something you would want to do, pretty easy, I just checked.

It's a very common practice in my area of computer programming / information systems where there are sub-programs / sub-routines. You can work on them independently as long as the interaction with the master program is preserved.

I was hoping something similar exists here also. Makes a lot of sense to me, to be honest, especially when a script has semi-independent plots (something happening in a different town, flashback, etc.). However, judging from your response, it appears that screenwriters don't care about this feature, and hence it is missing from Final Draft.

So, I will resort to the last option - copy and paste.

Well, there are different ways to look at it. During story development and analysis there are tools you can use to do just that. Using cards on a cork board is a great way to partition scenes into beats and acts, etc. When it comes to writing, however, most of the apps are more like a fancy word processor than anything else. You can view scene lists, etc, but not much beyond that.
