Script Interest

I have this script "in development" which I have gotten feedback on in the past. Everyone seems to like the title and concept with changes in the body of course. At some point I am hoping to find someone to re-write/co-re-write it for me, just have not gotten off my butt to look for someone. I of course plan to direct this, but at a future date as a second or third because I feel with the right re-write it would be a pretty good black comedy and I obviously need some extra experience. I've been trying to concentrate on other more lowbrow ideas just to get something of feature length made. Anyway, I just got this in one of my emails and while it shows a building interest in my script I can't help but think this is another guy in my position trying to get a toe in the door. Obviously I have no plans to give up my directing duties on this, though it did cross for a microsecond when he said he thought he could find 50-100k. Anyway, just thought I would fill up some unused space on Jarred's server. (Of course, comments are welcome),

Hey, XXXXX XXXXXX here, I read your screenplay and reviewed a while back. I recently came across it while taking a moment to organize (trying to spring clean before I figure out what I'm doing for the summer) and read a little of it. I think it's a great concept and the name alone is worth producing.

If you are interested, I think I can find $50,000 to $100,000 to make this movie. But of course, I would want to direct. What do you think? Know anyone we could get in front of that has $2,000 to invest? If we get 25 of those people together, we have a movie. You'd be screenwriter/producer, I'd be director/producer and we'd add people on accordingly. I'm in XXX, XX so with you being in North Texas I think this could be a very do-able production.

Everyone would get a small paycheck, investors would be in for "double the money" on the back end, and you and I would split anything over double profit. If this interests you, we should get started right away. We need to form an L.L.C. but should figure out where the best place to opperate out of would be (between TX or XX) for tax advantages. Which means we need to lock a script right away so we can budget.

If this sounds good, or if you'd be more interested in just selling the script to me for back-end profits, or if you've got something else going, let me know ASAP.

Thanks

Good luck with the script CF.

You're buddy says "i think i can find 50 - 100 k" then goes on to say "if we can get 25 of those people together, we have a movie". Ahhh...

This dude has the same plan as every other filmmaker outta college. That said, I'm probably a cynic so take that with a grain of salt. On the flip side maybe you should meet with him and if you both hit it off well and share a bit of creative vision why not try to co-direct? Of course it would be a compromise but you never know, it might start a career for you if it happens to pan out.

You're looking for a writer, not a director. Keep that clear at all times.

Number of directors out there are looking for that great story to direct. Don't give that part up, and keep looking.
