Script Collaboration

Where would you all recommend I turn as a resource to collaborate with screenwriters that are simply starting out? I'm basically starting out as a filmmaker and will collaborate or "donate my time" to projects here and there. Like many of you, I'm not working in filmmaking professionally, but I want to make quality shorts.

Is there a place that screenwriters make scripts available or volunteer to write short scripts/stories to then have people produce for them?

I ask because I've heard people talk about how there are tons of aspiring writers that would love to have some of their work visualized, but at first blush, it seems elusive to me as to where all these writers are.

Advice?

Ryan, the best place to start, is to find out if there's any writers societies or clubs locally.
Writing is a lonely business etc and you need ppl you can talk with in person.

I was a mod on the Panasonic site 04-09 and back then, the best production contacts for getting started were local, and imo they still are.

Cheers.

Inktip.com has lots of shorts. I put my shorts up there for about a week, then quickly took them down; because all I was getting was requests from 17 year old noob filmmakers who had not yet made a film, who wanted all rights to my short screenplay and who wanted it for free.

As a writer, I think I want what most writers want-- a filmmaker who is not going to turn a quality short screenplay into a rank amateur piece of junk filmed by some 9th grader or first year college student taking Film_101 who has no filmmaking skills.

So I put my short screenplays online on my blog page (randalloelerich.com) with their loglines and titles-- and what I will do is sell a short I wrote for a few hundred bucks or so (i put in a lot of time writing them, why would I give them away for free to some high school student with no filmmaking skill [NOT saying that is you Ryan, not at all.]); but if the short actually gets made, and ends up on IMDB.com (meaning the film had to have made into some legitimate film festival of some sort), within a reasonable amount of time, then I will refund the cost of the script making it essentially free in the long term.
