I've replied to probably more than 20 ads on Craigslist for people looking for photography work, people looking for videography work and people looking for crews/help with their short films and features and got 2 replies so far

2 replies. and one of them both of them didn't seem interested. kinda sad/disappointed now lol:lipsrseal

fret not! I've never got a reply from craigslist. I'm not sure but I think a lot of the ads are for $4 per hour videographers or those that shoot weddings. Weddings do pay, but if you've never done one they don't seem to want to take a chance. I've never wanted to be in a position of crushing a bride's dream with some technical glitch.
There are lots of postings in Vancouver slamming ads that are way too cheap.

Dc area. I posted in five or six dc area threads on here a couple of months ago when I joined to try to connect and collaborate with people and they don't have a single new reply in them. Makes me feel like I'm the only person left in dc that wants to make movies

I want to move to California but that's not gonna happen for at least three years sadly

Well, get involved with the community. 12 Posts isn't gonna do it, you know ? Most people here have spent quite some time getting to know everyone (albeit virtually at first).

We've had people flying in from all over to collab with DVXUsers.

Where are you sahara ? Network here ... you'll get better results.

Agreed.

Also, I would try and avoid CL as much as possible. I have only ever been satisfied with one job that I got on CL, out of about 15. The majority of my work comes from people that I know or people that know someone that I know. Creativity is only about 10% of the business, the rest is networking and selling yourself. If you can't sell yourself, you won't have an outlet for your creativity. Try mandy.com and also try reaching out to local companies telling them that you're interested in working with them. If you're looking to do any kind of camera work or editing, make sure that you have a reel of some kind. It doesn't matter how nice it is. Having a reel shows that you are serious about getting work and that you'll put in the effort. Good luck!

Craigslist is a waist land full of no pay jobs.
I browsed it today just for laughs and the best gig I could find in my area was a two day shoot that paid what I charge for an hours work.

LOL, the grass is not any greener here. CL should only be one avenue of finding gigs. I land them frequently through CL, but I also land gigs from here, and other forums, and spreading the word about the company every way I can find.

I've had some luck with CL. Have to wade through a lot of no pay or low pay to find the better ones. Most of the decent jobs I've gotten were not found under the TV-Radio category, but under "Crew". Not as much competition monitoring that category so my email was maybe one of 5 instead of one of 20. I'm working a gig right now for an HGTV show you would recognize, found on CL.

Hollywood is stitch up and unless you network like crazy or have the right last name your better off making new clients.

Hey fellow DC-Baltimore buddy! Craigslist is the suck. It used to be good like 4-5 years ago but not so much anymore. I am going to be shooting a TV pilot or two in the next few months. I'm not sure what your skill set is but you can send me a private message here.

For my last short film, I tried casting on both Mandy.com and Craigslist. The latter was a complete waste of time.
