Screenwriting Software

when it comes to writing the dialogue and telling the story, i am pretty good at it. It's different when it comes to formatting. Is there a screenwriting software that takes care of the formatting, so you only have to worry about telling the story?

Yea Celtx is extremely easy and its free. you can download it just type it in google. Other programs include Final Draft and Movie Magic but those you gotta pay for. Celtx has formats built in so it's very simple to use. Hope that helps.

I have used Celtx, found it a bit buggy, but it is free, pretty good. I use Movie Magic Screenwriter-- incredible, but I do dislike the fact you can only install it to 2 computers, not 3, and the put some heavy anti-piracy in it so you can not install and use it with Linux (not an issue for most people). If you are a student or teacher you can get screenwriting software much cheaper at academicsuperstore.com or other such sites.

I've used celtx for about 6 months now and I've never noticed any bugs (though I'm sure there are some), it's easy to use and also provides you with a web storage where you can upload your screenplays.

I've used both Final Draft and Movie Magic. I now only use Movie Magic. It's much easier to navigate and it doesn't have any of the bugs that Final Draft has had over the years. The company that puts out Movie magic also puts out a cheaper version called Hollywood Screenwriter (forty bucks) but it doesn't convert to pdf.

If you call them and tell them you had to buy a new computer because the old one crashed (or whatever), they'll give you another password so you can install it again. I won't say how many times I've installed my Movie Magic!

I use Movie Magic... but I started out using the tab button on my typewriter and later using a macro. Though a program makes things easier, it doesn't do any of the writing. You still have to do that.

There are many screenplays out there that look great due to Movie Magic or Final Draft or Celtex... but read like crap. Put in the hours to learn the craft, and read a pile of screenplays so that you *think* in screenplay.
