screenwriting seminars ?

Any writers here who have attended a screenwriting seminar workshops, such as those given by Hauge, McKee, Truby, or other gurus? Any recommendations, warnings, good or bad experiences? I would like to plan one such seminar workshop in the next year, just interested in ideas of who is good, not good, most bang for the buck, etc.

Hey Randall,
I think you will find people who have likes and dislikes for all of them. It will be a matter of what you believe in. I think all of them have good points that can be combined to give you an all-around screenwriting method. For a short comparison you can go to my site where I've posted an article written by the makers of Dramatica, which is another way of writing scripts. I do not promote any of these methods or products...I simply asked if I could post this informative article comparing all of these screenwriting gurus.

Kess, very nice website. Started reading the screenwriting section--heavy stuff. I am going to need a couple of double shot cafe lattes tomorrow as I read it again! Looks like some good stuff to digest!

are those screenwriting courses still available?

It takes a bit of digestion to take it all in, but watch a few films and see if you can relate their story structure to the films. Print it out...cut and paste it to Word to print it if you need to.

The article is good for studying their high points of structure.

Sorry jowei...I forgot to answer your question. I have cut back on the teaching end of it, because I am trying to get a couple of scripts ready for filming. The clock is ticking so I am putting my time where I need to right now.

Pop me an email and let me know where you are in your writing and I can give you some info to help you. The script is the most important part of the filmmaking equation...so we have to get it as close to great as we can.

Thanks Nash. Drop me an email. I'll post that dialogue article up on another post here shortly.
