Screenplays wanted

Hello writers,

We are a small and fairly new production company based in Istanbul, Turkey. We are currently preparing two feature length documentaries, one funded by the European Union, the other as a coproduction with a French company.

We are looking for interesting feature length screenplays to produce and direct. We are open to all ideas and genres (although we have a particular interest in intelligent and original film noir). However this should be a no/lo budget film as we have limited financial means. Also this film will be doing the festival circuit so only suitable projects please.

We can only shoot in this area of the world so no location specific stories.

Also keep in mind that we have no money to pay for your script until after (and if) we manage to earn any money with the film.

Language is not an issue as we can translate as well as shoot in english if the project calls for it.

You can contact me at ramin@giyotinfilm.com

Thanks.

I don't know, this sounds like like a good deal to me. And the amazing thing is my last 5 scripts are all Turkish stories. Here they are, just let me know which one you want.

1) "Turkish Delight"
2) "Debbie Does Istanbul"
3) "A Harem for Hamurabi"
4) "Turkeys, Donkeys, and Gerbils, Oh my!"
5) "Turkey Necks, 1001 Uses" (documentary)

Now, now. Play nicely.

I know what you mean, though. They want jam on it, don't they? Intelligent, original, full-length, no budget needed, and all for no money. Should I throw in my first-born child?

first rule of screenwriting: learn to kill your darlings.

Ah, yes, the graveyard of one's creativity. We all have one, but I think we secretly hope the boneyard turns out to be the Pet Semetary...without all the blood and screaming and general killing-everybody thing, of course.

But I bet someone's script will find its home with Ramin.

BTW, when I said, Should I throw in my first-born child, I didn't mean it figuratively, ie, first-born child= my first script. I meant it sarcastically, as in the Rumplestiltskin story, ie first-born child=little Mitsouko/Kitty Rose/Ninevah/Cleo (sadly, have named my children before I've even met a potential father).

right. no, i know. i was speaking facetiously and didn't mean to be taken literally when turning that phrase figuratively on its head... wait, huh? i've confused myself.

...cute names, btw.

You're American. You're not supposed to understand irony. It's the law. See, that's what's confusing things. Stick to your national stereotype and we'll have no problem.

Hey guys, not to be rude....but is there really a reason to be coming down so hard on this guy?

We are all screenwriters and film makers here. We all take pride in our work and certainly wouldn't give it away. But is there a need to be so harsh?

Try some of the stickies at the top, there are websites listed there where you can buy a script.

Take care, and good luck.

I agree! I've been trying for years to get my Turkish porno movies produced and finally, at long last, an opportunity falls out of the sky.

You guys are blowin' for me. I really resent it.

Thanks Matty, that will be better. I just got the crazy notion that a post would speed things up in terms of finding something I might be interested in.

Zahra: I think some of these guys are following their national stereotypes.

In all honesty Ramin, I would search elsewhere for material. Mandy.com is a good hit.

On a side note, I would throw down some money for purchase of script, even if it's small. A commitment of some money in any form is a clear indication of seriousness to material in my eyes. You said that a previous doc was funded by the EU, so I would use money you saved from that production to lock-down an option on material.

I would also clearly state what is in it for the writers business end ($). Do they get 3% of budget when it goes into production? Or 3% of net points? Etc?

Imagine yourself from the writers point of view, why would they want to do business with you? What's in it for them? Other than 'getting material made' which in all honesty, if you liked the script, there's no reason why someone else wouldn't like it and then pay money for it.

Thanks EJ, you're quite right, I should've given more info about all that. I just assumed it would be something to work out with the writers who are interested.

Thank you for your input

To be fair, we are all trying to get things off the ground, and unless we are lucky, there is often no money. I respect that. I've recently started doing stuff, as an actress, for only the showreel. But I think so many demands of a screenplay - full length, out of the country, Turkish-setting-friendly, no budget - and then no pay...d'you know what I mean? Anyway, Ramin, I wish you luck.

Working a few days here and there as a DP, actress, or Director in order to network or whatever is one thing, but screenplays take months. Years even. The initial post was just a little too flip and cavalier in its "Toss me your screenplay" query--suggesting a lack of respect and understanding of the craft itself.

Which is the reason you think it appropriate to bash him and his craft and his query and nationality?
I've been trying for years to get my Turkish porno movies produced and finally, at long last, an opportunity falls out of the sky.
That is entirely hypocritical. It was a query, that is all. It is no need to go run off with comments that have been seen in this post. What does it do save make you look like a raging moron. Anyone can say anything on the internet. But I was hoping other screenwriters who are slightly older than the typical 14 year old playing on forums would at least be able to contain themselves.

I think he understands the point so gratefully brought up.

Hey! Porno is an artform! Don't knock sex unless you've tried it!
