Scream voice changer

I need to record voice that sounds like the killer from Scream on the phone. Does anybody know how to do it?

i guess. maybe there is some "scream voice changer" application... but i found it only in "hardware" version :)

Don't know the film but I can tell you that no self respecting sound editor would use a canned preset to modify a voice. If all it took was to dial in a preset they would all be out of very nicely paying jobs.

If you found some preset then it was probably created after the fact to sound like what the editor did to the voice.

I dont need preset, I just wanna know how to do it :) Maybe I should modify my question - I need a voice that sound like its coming from a phone... How do you do something like this?

I've done it by holding the phone on a mic and recording it. I've also used Sony Soundforge with a little distortion and eq tweaking.

I use the Speakerphone plug-in. It has TONS of cool phone pre-sets, and you can spend lots of time tweaking them to get exactly what you want. Otherwise, heavy compression, and proper EQ can get the job done, if you know what you are doing.

Not knowing what tools you might have at your disposal, I would suggest starting with a google search for... telephone effect eq

Good Luck!

Speaker phone is fantastic, but not cheap. If you want to use a plugin and don't want to spend much then Vinyl by iZotope can do a pretty good job and is free. If you want/ need to do it with built in plugins then to get that "classic" phone sound you would use either a band pass filter or a high cut and a low cut and just really narrow down the spectrum. You could also copy the track and run the copy through a heavy distortion and add a little of that back in. If it's long distance or a cel phone you might also play with putting a delayed copy in at a low level and fade it in and out.

Or you could play it through a phone and rerecord it, what is called "Worldizing".

The thing is very few modern phones sound as bad as your typical movie phone. Part of that is that you are trying to convey through the sound that they are on a phone where in real life you know they are on a phone, so you kind of have to push reality a bit. But also you should think about what you can add to the moment with the "phone" sound. There are millions of phones out there running over millions of different systems so just about any "sound" is plausible.
