Scratch disk setup

I need some help setting up scratch disks on a new incoming machine. I thought I understood it, but now I'm not so sure.

I have one sata drive (C) only for OS and programs, two other sata disks (D and E) available for whatever and then a Raid 0 disk array (F) for video/audio files only.

Does this work:

C: OS and programs only
D: video/audio preview
E: media cache/DVD
F: video and audio source files only

I know this is basic stuff but I think I've read some misleading advice and now need another opinion. Thanks.

That would be fine.
Where will you keep your Project File?

My issue with management of projects has always been the spreading around of everything across multiple disks. Real good for performance but makes Media / Asset Management difficult especially if you wanted to archive or migrate it to another system.

I think I would put project files on drive E. Does that work?

Good point. Archiving finished projects is my achilles heel. I read here somewhere where one person put all of their project files on one disk that was, of course seperate from the OS/programs disk and the Raid video/audio source disk. They also put files that took a lot of human intervention such as AE project files and Photoshop files in that same project folder.

Then they made sure that the Raid disk had their video/audio source material in a directory of the same name as that on their projects disk.

They could then re-load their project files if necessary and recapture all of their footage from tape.

I'm all P2 HD now, so I guess I'll have to archive my video files to disk. Can't think of any other reasonable way to do it.

I am kind of in the same boat making the same decisions.

I have a brand new HYBRID Suite ( Adobe CS3 and Final Cut Studio 2 - both MAC) BTW: I still have Windows Premiere Suites running PremPro 2.

I will keep my Disk allocation to only 3 Disks (I archive to external HDs)

O.S and Programs (C)
Projects,previews and Cache (D)
Source /media (E)

I will do a new regime of media management by using a better Folder Structure acroos the disks in an attempt to keep Projects well identified.

My Windows suites are a bit of a mess (and only use two HDs) but manageable. I can do better this time hopefully.
