Scoring a video

Robbie Comeau

Como's back. back again
Im fortunate enough to get my friend, who produces beats and sings, to score my videos. He uses a PC, and he has Fruity Loops and Reason. The other day i sent him a crappy quality video, 6 mb's, and i told him to score it. He said when he plays it he gets pink. Where and how can he score my video, using the two prgorams i mentioned above. What the fastest, cheapest way of doing this?

thanks

I dont know if your being smart with me, or if your being serious, but isn't scoring, giving the video sound and stuff? the soundtrack and what not?

i exported mpeg4...........can he even add video in fruity loops or reason? what software will he need for this to happen?

Sorry, don't know those programs. I replied because I had a video sent to me awhile back that came out as a blank pink screen that would switch to weird bars ocassionally. Installing his codec cleared it right up (think it was Xvid). I also remember that Nuendo had issues with some Apple codec awhile back. Getting video from FCP was a nightmare.

You might do well to try a different encoding format and see what that gets you. But as to those programs I can't comment.

Good luck

Were you trying to be smart back?

Scoring is creating the musical score for a film vid etc. The "sound and stuff" is mostly in the FX and dialog dept not the music dept. I don't want to sound rude but you might want to go into Barnes and Noble and skim a book on filmmaking so some of these very basic terms aren't a mystery to you.

Logic audio on mac and nuendo on pc are good tools for that. He would need to use rewire to use reason and nuendo in sync. Nuendo is not cheap tough... Ask him to look in his manual to see if reason can import video i was not able to find that info on reasons web site. If it does what format is supported.

Well thats what i meant. I no the special effect sounds and what not aren't up to the score person

I don't mean to pick on you but you did bring this up in the sound section. Outside of visual FX sound is the largest category in post-production. It takes a lot of people working in a variety of specialties to create that "what not". If you want to get serious and useful responses you should educate your self a little and try to be a little less dismissive and generally insulting to the folks who you are asking help from.
