I bought a Schneider polarizer filter, screw on type, and was wondering if it is ok to just leave it on permantly or just put it on when I need it? Your thoughts?
ReneH, the Pola is only going to work when the sun is out, since it cuts refections and deepens a blue sky. Even if it is overcast, it does nothing except act as a N.D., since it cuts down the light 1 2/3 stops. A UV filter (cuts out ultraviolet light) is a better choice as a lens protector. Find one that is "multi coated", like our B + W UV 010 MC. But you take the filter off if you use a wide angle or telephoto adapter.

And Tiffen makes the ProMist, we make a similar, but more refined, Black Frost.

P.S. by refined I mean our black particles are smaller and more uniform, giving the filter a different look than a ProMist. It is our most popular filter for DV.
I did buy the Schneider UV filter and the polarizer filters, at the suggestion of Tommy from EVS. I'm new to all of this somewhat, and I really apprecite the thoughfulnness and suggestions in all of your posts. Thanks guys.
