scaling problem

I need to scale several shots either smaller or larger, but i can't get them to NOT also scale my 2.35 matte bars.

anyone know how to do this?

Thanks

yep, doesnt work

all i can think of is putting the matte on the video layer bove it, but i cant figure out how to add the matte to without an invisible clip or something like that.

anyone know?

Hey Cheese-
This is kind of a crappy rough work around, and I can't honestly say I've used it in a big project, but you can just build the bars in Photoshop or another program like that and save it out as a tiff with transparencey. Than, in FCP, use your original 4:3 media, scale and position it, and that control click the clip in the timeline and select copt attributes. Then with the playhead at the beginning of the clip, Superimpose the tiff. This will put a copy of the image on the video track above the old clip for the same amount of time. Than control-click the bars and select paste attributes. Select relevent motion attributes (probably scale and center) After that your video should play fine and in RT if you're running a fast enough machine. Darn, that got really long really quick. Hope some of it helps.
Peace,

-Harry
