Why the picture-quality get bad when i scale a 720p footage in after effects?
Where is the problem?
The pic in the attachement shows the scale of a 720p footage to 35.8% in AE. I rendered it out and opened it in PS by 100%

i thank you and I would be very glad over your inputs!

Are your comp and render settings at full?

Using a filter prior to downsampling, something like Re:Vision's SmoothKit, might help.

Wow that's pretty bad.

I just tried some scaling down some test patterns and couldn't replicate your poor results.

What does the original image look like? Are you sure it was 720p footage?

Check that you used to right export codec when bringing it from your editor.

Also check the clip settings in AE (Cmd + Alt + G) or right-click Interpret Footage > Main and make sure there's nothing funky in "Fields and Pulldown".

If you're comp is using non-square pixles you'll get results like that. If you change your comp settings to a square pixel format you won't see that anymore. For example, on HVX footage in AE, I always change the comp to 1280x720 with Square pixels in the Comp Settings dialog box rather than the default 960x720 with 1.33 pixel aspect ratio. It always smoothes out those issues. People will say otherwise but they're just stupid and have no good reason for it.

The original Image looks very good!
Could the captered aspectratio be the cause? The HPX500 records in 960x720...

Look at this: This movie was recorded in 720pN, edited in AE, converted to flv and downscaled in EpisodePro:
http://www.raiffeisen.ch/raiffeisen...t&Bank=Raiffeisenbank%20Z%FCri-Unterland---O7
looks bad... But the original-edited version is very good!

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but how is it AE's fault if it looks fine when edited and exported?

It seems to be a scaling issue with EpisodePro ?

i tried this with square pixels, but its not better... AE does not scaling in good quality!
Better, i found out, is to scale and export in FCP. That will be good...!

There's something else wrong if you think FCP scales better than AE. AE's scaling is way better than Final Cut. Hell, FCP's scaling is crap compared to AE. After Effects is a far more complex program and you're just doing something wrong that you don't understand.

There's the Interpret Footage dialog, comp settings, switches settings, the render queue settings and within those there's about another dozen or so settings that could mess up your footage. AE gives you a lot more access to your footage and how it's being processed compared to FCP, which is really dumb in comparison.
