Say what you want about George Lucas and Star Wars . . .

Good. He's a dreadful actor whose skills (I suspect) were not going to improve much with further training.

Thanks the gods that he's hit the fed-up point while young enough to have a crack at a different career and hopefully an un-f*cked-up life, when he grows up.

Considering that George got some pretty dull performances out of highly skilled actors, I point the finger more at him for Jake's turn in the film. Here's an interview with older Jake, in which I detect an undercurrent of sarcastic disdain bubbling just beneath the surface of his affable exterior--

And then there would have been no design inspiration for last year's "Star Trek" travesty.

Ouch.. well I suppose I run the risk of being in the minority here when I say that I did enjoy the new Star Trek movie. I thought the cinematography was done well, I enjoyed seeing the characters revisited, and actually look forward to the next one. But that's just me.

I agree with both of these. As Star Trek, it wildly missed the mark. As an entertaining summer sci-fi flick, it was spot on.

It skillfully alternated moments of f*ck yeah! with moments of sheer cringe-inducing awfulness. I'll give it that.

That's exactly my point. I am a little young to have grown up on the originals, though my dad was a huge fan of Next Generation.
However, when I watch a movie, I really try to watch it as a movie, without the name. Sure, Star Trek is huge in our culture and hard to ignore a title like that on a movie, with easily recognizable characters, but if you just try and enjoy it for what it was, a cool Sci Fi flick, then I think you can enjoy it better.
Hey, at least it wasn't Michael Bay at the helm, right?

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/member.php?u=5765Batutta,

Great YouTube video there. Jake Lloyd seems like a friendly guy who'd be fun to hang out with and talk nerd shi*.

He really is. But actually we talked about hot rods and my girlfriend was teaching him some bullshi* in German while he was teaching her to speak with a southern drawl.

Actually I think he was happy to speak with someone who doesn´t want a photo with him, an autograph or talk about Star Wars at all.

Also his mum is a real lovely person.

speaking of the new star trek movie, i think this sums up the feelings of a lot of trekkies (in case you hadn't seen it):

Heck, why shouldn't everybody get a crack at it? Michael Bay, David Lynch, Michael Mann, Werner Herzog, Gregg Araki...let's get everybody's take on the property...

...come to think of it, I *would* pay real money, to see Gregg Araki's take on Trek...

If you guys want to see J.J.'s next movie (Super 8) that has been very top secret there will be a trailer to it in the Midnight showing of Iron Man II tomorrow night.
