Say what you want about George Lucas and Star Wars . . .

True,

But you don't have to be a 'cult film' to have a 'cult following', which i would say describes perfectly the people who go to cons dressed as wookies and march in parades as storm troopers. There's people who enjoy a movie, and there's people who take it a bit too far....

'Inspiration' is not a word that sits comfortably in any sentence composed to describe last year's Star Trek movie.

Ouch.. well I suppose I run the risk of being in the minority here when I say that I did enjoy the new Star Trek movie. I thought the cinematography was done well, I enjoyed seeing the characters revisited, and actually look forward to the next one. But that's just me.

And yes, Galaxy Quest was definitely and inspired satire of this whole thing.

If the people who found R2 there devoted their abilities to analyzing the Zapruder film, we'd know who really killed Kennedy, by now...

i would not say that the star wars trilogy as we know it, is the work of george lucas, it's more like the star was trilogy happened despite of george lucas interference.

the newer trilogy, the cartoons, the newer games, that's more like george lucas.

Speaking of all things Lucas and such, did anyone see the South Park regarding the last Indiana Jones movie? (I use the term "movie" loosely in this context) The episode was hilarious, and almost exactly described my feelings upon seeing that travesty. IMO

Remember what Mister Plinkett had to say about the opening shot of Star Wars: A New Hope:

"This is so brilliant that I feel completely sure that George Lucas didn't have anything to do with it and probably fought against including it in the film."

Having second that....

I was on the European Star Wars Jedi Con a few weeks ago, cause I made the opening movie for the convention.
The pic above is a BTS shot.

Steve Sansweet & Matthew Wood of Lucas Film and Jake Lloyd (who played Anakin Skywalker) told me, that this opening film, was the best one they seen on a convention EVAR!

Woohoo!

I was spending the whole evening after the convention chatting with Jake Lloyd and his mum.
Great down to earth folks with an even greater sense of humor.

Has Jake Lloyd done anything since Episode I? It didn't kill his career, hack up the corpse and scatter the pieces...?

Should have.

From what Jake told me, he´s pretty much fed up with the film business. He got stalked so badly (from girls who wanted to merry him and from hardcore old school fans that wanted to kill him) that they have to move 3 times to a new home andwhatnot. I think what happened back than was a bit much for a kid. So, yeah kinda killed his career.

Good. He's a dreadful actor whose skills (I suspect) were not going to improve much with further training.

Thank the gods that he's hit the fed-up point while young enough to have a crack at a different career and hopefully an un-f*cked-up life, when he grows up.

*edit* Isn't it funny how despite their huge-ass box office performance, the Star Wars films have been career poison to everyone who appeared in them, except for Harrison Ford?
