saving timeline

I'm making a short film and I want to start another project. Can I save the current project in the timeline? Can I go back and forth between timelines?

Which software? I imagine you can in any NLE ever made since not being able to save a timeline would be problematic.

FCP saves everything automatically. I commonly duplicate timelines for various edits/drafts and sometimes have 10 timelines of the same project with slight changes (like different text or font color, etc).

I mostly do this for when a team wants to go back to something and I can just copy and paste sections into a new timeline as we work towards a final.

Forgot to add that is is FCPX. I just don't want to start a new project and have my timeline with the current project to disappear.

Are you asking this because you've never used the software before? Or actually digging deeper into the capabilities of FCP and would like two timelines up at the same time?

It's a bit unclear because the question is so basic but could it actually be more involved. lol

If you're worried about the timeline with your current project disappearing when you make a new timeline/project - as in being deleted - then that won't happen unless you manually delete your timelines/projects (or the entire event/library).

You can create as many projects as you'd like inside of your event (see screenshot below). You can double-click these to enter the project/edit, or use the arrows above the timeline to cycle through available projects (or use the drop-down menu).

If you'd like to create a new timeline but also see your old one at the same time, you can't do that. You can only see one timeline at a time.
