Saving the DVX heads during capture

In order to save the heads on the DVX 100A I am looking for a low priced, yet high quality, alternative to use when capturing video in Vegas. It seems to me that using the DVX as a playback machine will cause added wear to the heads and I would like to avoid this. What else are people using?

Thank you in advance for you suggestions.

Find a super-cheapo DV camera, as long as the tape transport works and the heads are clean you'll get the exact same quality. :)

Wow! That was quick, thank you.

Any suggestions as to what might be the best "cheap" camera that will do the trick?

Thanks again.

I would just look for the best deal. I bought a "broken" panasonic off Ebay for 50 bucks. Something was stuck in the focus and zoom, but it recorded and played back fine. It's perfect for capturing and editing.

On a side note I fixed the problems and now it's a full functioning camera. And if it breaks, who cares because it was only $50.

i just got a samsung cam for capture and output from firewire to my monitor. it was on sale at target for $199 marked down from $299. works perfect. sale is still on..... model sc-d353
