Sanken CS-1

Used Sanken CS-1 on recent shoot.
It died on location.
We were only able to squeeze a small signal out of it.
I had no replacement and we were pressed for time.
Nows I'm faced with having to bump up the audio SUBSTANTIALLY in post.
No fun, and that's another story.
This mic came highly touted by Trew Audio in Toronto where I bought.
I've used it successfully for many interviews.
Beautiful, clear, crisp audio.
This latest application had the CS-1 suspended in a Rycote windscreen on a carbon fibre boom which I've used before.
But sound transference and handling noise were a problem.
I am taking this back to the vendor for a diagnosis.
Maybe this mic is too fragile?
Not blaming my tools here.
But I would be curious to know of the experiences of other
SankenCS-1 owners.

I own the Cs-3 and i can safely say its one of the quietest mic's ive owned
as far as handling noise.
I would look to phantom issues, or cable issues if this mic has worked fine before
and the mic wasnt in an accident.

I've abused one of my two CS-1 for over a year, jungles, one month on the ocean, dirt, high and very low temp, everything possible and never have problem with it. Actually, it works better for me on those conditions that here in NYC, where RF kills it.
The CS-1 has very extremely high LF sensitivity, what is a problem for boom work. Glenn Trew use to replace the rubber band on the K-tek kSm mount, for something softer, to help with that and it was an amazing improvement. Now, with the invision system, sometimes I don't even need to Roll Off the high frequencies if I'm moving the pole slow enough. I don't use the ktek mount anymore.
I still wouldn't call the CS-1 a low handling noise microphone, the same with Cs-3. Low handling is the MKh416, or the Neumann 81, but Sanken, don't know about that.

The Cs-3 with the roll off works fine on the K-tek mount. Sometimes when shooting goes really fast I can feel the low rumble on the Cs-3, but I add the roll off on the mixer and is gone. On the other hand, with 416 ( or NTG-3) I can shoot in more situations without roll off. That's why I said that.
The CS-1 is way more sensitive to LF than the CS-3 and it doens't have any roll off.

Chris Cook and the good people at Trew in Toronto checked out the mic and it is OK!
Looking at operator error or a cable issue.
