SanDisk Extreme III?

Hi guys,

I've read that the SanDisk Extreme III SD cards are supposed to be like 50% faster than the regular SanDisk SD cards. Can anyone who shoots RAW atest to this? Did anyone ever actually test the 2 different cards to check it out?
I have bought an LX2 (still waiting for it to arrive) that is supposed to take 5 seconds to process a RAW shot and I was wondering if using a SanDisk Extreme III would maybe reduce this time.

thanks,

Rafa

Is the speed also tied in to how fast the camera can write to the card? If so, you could go Extreme IV and see no improvement. Just wondering:)

my d80 with a normal card it can take 9 jpgs straight withou slowing down, with the sandisk extreme III 100 or so. Raws no more than 6 in a row (2,5fps or was it 3fps) the in it slows down, but it doesn't stop, with the extreme III, haven't tried it with the sandisk.

What the extreme III adds is transfer time, the D80s buffer is 9 or 6 photos in full quality and raw, but the fast transfer time of the extreme allows for a really fast clearing of the buffer, in the case of the jpgs the buffer free space doesn't go below 5 photos, till you get to about 90, 100 photos, then it slows down. Raws in the other hand take all the buffer space, but the fast transfer rate allows for a 0,5or 1 fps speed (at least in my case and not scientifically proved.....)

hope this is useful for something.....

camera writing buffers make the "speed" of a given card almost a null point. I guess it could make a difference when reading, if the extra money means not spending an extra half second to review a photo.

The only advantage is when you download the stuff to your computer. If I remember correctly (b/c I'm too lazy to look it up) the Extreme 3's are like 133 or 160x. I don't remember off hand, but that is what I use and have had no issues. 4G will take like maybe 5-8 mins depending on the PC, but that is over USB too so it's not that bad. I've never wished for a faster one I guess I could say.
