Sandisk creates 4K compact flash card

"Cracked", ha!

CFast is just SATA in a Compact Flash form factor. Many companies are a part of the compact flash association that came up with the standards.

The slower 160MB/s Sandisk CF flash cost $219.99 for 16GB and $1,809.99 for 256GB so I would imagine this card cost much more.

B&H has the 160 mb/s, 256GB CF disk going for $999...which to me is still astronomically high. I can't see these new 450 mb/s cards being THAT much more. Makes more sense to stick with SSD drives. It has to be somewhat competitive. Incidentally I am curious as to why a 160 mb/s card even exists. What video camera uses CF cards with a CODEC in the 100+ mb/s range?

I do think that the release of these new cards might be an indication that more 4K cameras are coming down the pipe sooner rather than later. I don't think Sandisk would have developed this product unless Camera manufacturers went to them and let them know what they are planning to release. Should be interesting to see.

The new ARRI Amira uses these CFast2 cards.

Probably expensive to start, but at least it's an open format so competition should drive the price down.

It'd be great to see something like a 5" version of the Convergent Design Odyssey that has two CFast slots instead of full-size SSDs.

1. Sneaky manufacturers typically quote the read speed, not the slower write speed.
2. Even the rated write speed is rare up to spec, a 1000x card only writes a sustained 95mb/s or so.
3. Canon 5D3 when recording Raw, 1DC when recording 4K, maybe there are others.
