I'm a san francisco resident, and have a question for all the other sf residents.

i'm fairly new to this city and was curious about its filmmaking community. For money i do after effects work and have been pretty succesful with it here, but a very small portion of my time has been spent on films...mostly internal branding stuff and marketing. flying words and flying psd crap for the most part. Luckily i've been involved on a couple productions that i'm happy to put my name on, for a group called actual films, and their upcoming pbs documentaries.

Anyway, im actively seeking more meaningful projects. stuff that i wouldnt mind working on at a reduced rate or even free. Im in production for my own short now, and have plenty of help, but i am the only person i know of besides business contacts with experience in filmmaking.

I'm lacking community, and i'm not about to go to film school. any suggestions?

I hate saying this, but there is no actual talent up here. I would cast l.a. actors for your short film if I were you. The actors in l.a. take their craft much more serious than people who want to act up here. I've shot both here and L.A. and I can tell you with Personal experience. As far as work; you have a better chance of getting work in the city than me. I'm a editor, and most of the work is in the city, and the production people want local people. Either way, I havn't seen much work. Craigslist has been a war zone lately with people ranting about why everybody's posting free help, so I stay away.

good luck

jesus i dont even deal with craigs anymore. oversaturated with morons who want to edit their opus movie for free.
