Caught the review of the H2 on TrewAudio.

It mentions that it can produce workable timecode with a cable specially from Remote Audio.

Anyone worked with this already ?

Just like to know what timecode does it outputs, workable with film/video (SMTPE 24 or 25 frames).

How's the sound quality of it by the way? Good enough for broadcast?

Considering to get one of these in place of bulky DAT recorders.

it doesn't produce any tc , i it can record ltc tc on one of the audio channels if you supply it from the camera or any other tc devices
not really what you are looking for normal workflow but for back up/ transcription ( 1 mono feed + 1 tc feed)
of course remote/trew audio would like to sell their overpriced cables which you can make or ordered in local shop for half price ,
about sound quality , don't expect for 2 much and if you need to use it as recording device add good mixer or preamp in front to avoid mic level connection
if you need something small which do reproduce / jam to tc , zaxom have the smallest recorder which with line input adapter could work normally( about 1250 usd)
or even look for used dat ( hhb or fostex which are fully equipped and could make the job , dont get wrong from they are 16 bit maximum as the analog stage is much important then how many bits they record
best

Come'n Oleg, Trew Audio cables are not that bad, try B&H and they will drive you crazy. I got RF problems with a MKH60 once because the fkng XLr cable from b&H and I personally don't know any mic. more reliable to RF problems than the MKH serie

I've heard good things about the Zoom, but according to an article in DV magazine, the Sony PCM-D1 is tough enough to be gnawed on by a Hyena and still kept on ticking. For those not familiar with the Animal Planet channel, the Hyena has some of the strongest jaws in Africa.

I use the H2 for timecode transcription and so far so good. I have only good things to say about Glen Trew and his store. They have went way behond good service bailing me out of tight spots shipping things to hotels, faxing information to me on location. I've been spending money with them since '97. And will continue. I recm Trew.

That's a great criteria to buy sound recorders when you want to record the sound of a Hyena's throat. I rather using a reliable under normal wheather conditions recorder and better sounding than the sony one. it probably cant take a very strong bite, but doesn't sound any better that a tascam DAT.

Guys we need to get away from thinking DAT. It's now a matter of (Shorter) time and you will be using them for door stops because you can't get parts to repair them and no transfer house will support the format. I worked with a prod co out of London and the London based sound mixer told me they (UK) don't use any tape at all for audio any more. If you are going to invest in a sound recorder go with a hard disk type. JM2C
