SAG buyout?

Hello,

A company may be hiring me to make a short documentary and they want to use a SAG actor for the host. They were curious if they can do a buyout with a SAG actor? If they can, what should they expect to pay?

Thanks

Well In Canada instead of SAG we have ACTRA but the IPA for performers is very similar. Most buyouts here are done for a period of 4 years. For television the amount is 105% of Net Fees which are defined in the ACTRA IPA. After the 4 year buyout the performers are entitled to receive 3.6% of the distributor's gross revenue from exploitation after the 4 year term.

When I'm working on my budget calculations on projects I generally don't use the buyout route and most other producers I know refrain as well since producers do not receive distributor's gross revenue which is determined prior to deduction of disributor's fees, expenses or recoupment of distribution advances.

If this is a documentary, why do they need actors? Is this a doc or a mock? Also, tell the company they can make the production SAG without having to pay much if their budget is low. SAG has become much more open to working with smaller projects over the last few years.
