safe to use tilt lock to adjust drag and balance?

Is it safe to use the tilt lock on a sachtler to adjust the balance and drag? I find that if I slighlty tighten the lock knob I can get perfect balance and drag on my tilts. Is this a wise thing to do or will i harm the head? I have an old sachtler video 14ii head.

I'd say overtime and depends on how often you use it ...yes you'll wear it out. See if you can get it serviced.
