Safe to record camcorder while driving in highway?

Is it safe to have your camcorder placed outside of your vehicle and record while driving in the highway?

I'm concerned about how the rushing wind will affect the audio component of the camcorder.

Thanks for your time.

You can not successfully use the camera mic while trying this as you'll gt no usable sound. You will need a microphone in the vehicle that is connected to the camera via a cable or wireless.

Besides the audio, there is always a risk when mounting a camera on a car. Murphy's law you know. I would worry more about rocks, debris, dust, ect. If driving in regular traffic you may also, attract the attention of diligent law enforcment types.

My main concern would definately be rocks, gravel and other debris that could have some not so good effects on your lense. If you do it, BE CAREFUL!

I've always been curious about possible damage to the on-board microphones - wind against the mic diaphragm specifically.

Any real danger here? Should you maybe put a jammer or plastic bag over the on-boards regardless of the fact that they're selected to bypass?
